I believe Essay

Brendan Hussey
I believe teaching is meant not just for the teacher to create a single bond with one student but with the ability to touch the life of each student that walks into a classroom. As a student I always had a curiosity of how the teachers thought and responded to other student’s. My first year of high school, my one teacher Mrs.Marseca and I were INTRODUCED. She always took an interest into what I thought and my viewpoints in the class. I found it, in a way, refreshing from the normal ask and answer routine in other classrooms. As the years went on, I had her all 4 years; it was nice in a way. After that first year there was always a smile on her face for me. I felt like I mattered, she took me under her wing to show me that every student has something special. She was molding me differently than everyone else. It made me realize if I were to become a teacher, and how amazing that feeling was that she sought me out and brought me in not only as a student but as a portage. During the 11th grade year of school she asked me to enter a contest for the ability to be accepted into a writers retreat at Adelphi University. Whenever we were working on my poem, the winning poem, she looked at my work in a new light. I would email her during the retreat; within the first email back she said something to me. This would be the most important reason I want to be a teacher in the email it said “I’m so proud to see that your growing so much, you are the type of student that reminds teachers why they teach” I cried in happiness at the fact that I meant that much to her and I made me realize what I believe, what the true goal of teaching is. For every student that walks in the classroom if you can get them to appreciate or blossom in one area that you teach that gives you great success. Teaching is not for those who want to just have one pupil in x amount of years of teaching to become their portage, the all -star. Teaching is not meant for the summers off or the ability to be able to call yourself an educator. It is for the pride of having a connection with students, that you both feed off of and grow individually from. It’s a good feeling when you watch all your students pass but nothing compares to the pride of having them call you their teacher. It will always be Mrs. Maresca who led the way for not just me but my friend Lizzie and the rest of the creative writing Maresca troop that we call our teacher the one who opened eyes and doors to each of us.

cool tools for school

http://teacher.scholastic.com/writeit/
Write it is a website for young writers to be able to post their own works of creative writing and publish it. As well as be able to read others, and get feedback on their own works thereby making their writing better. for it's purpose in the classroom id use it in order to have them be able to share their works with others which is especially what I want.

power ponit

It is time to try and catch up a bit as I realized I never went over my power point. well my project I based off a lesson my English teacher did and showed me, but I took my own twist. I essentially created a game show with interactive sounds and displays to entice the students to learn about what they are being shown. Using a hyperlink key action I was able to create button choices and have the correct answer link to the next slide. The problems I ran into are, I feel I may have made it too fun and not enough of a lesson portion, and I feel it is just one of those struggles we as educators must face every lesson we do. finding a proper yin to the yang so to speak.

twitter

so twitter um....... yeah. so I don't really use twitter to begin with so as far as it's importance to the world of teaching i really have no comment. Yes it can be helpful in some ways but i just don't like the whole idea of constance status updates. that is just my take

blog on chapter 1

Chapter one was one chapter that had it's points of clarity and its points of total what in the world. the main basic premise of this chapter was to properly describe a class room that is run solely off of technology and the vast changes that are occurring within the school system. A few questions about the text that I personally found un-answered are what about the teachers or schools who don't wish to use this new technology, due to tradition or basic lack of funding? Or how about students who are not as technologically savoy? If a classroom is all technology and a student cannot follow then the student cannot learn and will only goof off. I feel a strong balance will be necessary for a maximum learning environment. Also i feel like the schools that are going all tech are doing so at a pace were they are moving too fast. A slow but sure transition with proper training will probably be best. However with that said the chapter dose offer son bright and promising insight such as the whole idea of going "tethered to mobile" is not just cool but very true. I can speak from experience that not just college professors but high school teachers can now offer online support and turning in methods for on the go users. For instance now a student can use their phones in order to turn in a paper via e-mail, I mean when thought about it can be an amazing leap students who are sick at home never have to miss an assignment. Also as Wiley makes his fourth point of going from a generic to a personal, instead of being known as a general somebody to a personal individual now a person can go online and find thousands of people with the same interests as you and you can connect and talk to them. It is a growing world out there and times are changing and we are either about to adapt and be more digital teachers or fall by the waysides of old tradition. All any teacher or prospected teacher can do now if learn grow and if need be change.

Ok so somtimes "smart" phones are DUMB As a block of wood

So I went to text my friend today about what we had to do for our SEDU183 class today to make sure I did it. But my "smart" phone thought I was sending it to the wrong person and instead sent it to Celly where my teacher gets the messages. so now i look like an idiot who is lazy as all hell. You have got to love "smart"phones.

My other passion

Cover Photo
Dance it is  my other passion besides writing and music which are the greatest things in the world I feel. All due to the fact that they are the few things in this world that can magically invoke emotions of the body, mind, and soul. By the way That^ is me i did a little photo shop to make it cool but that is me dancing by in my hometown of Bellmore, N.Y. But dance is no longer just a thing i do to pass time and work out, no like writing and music it is apart of me it is my own bit of soul on display like a prized deer head or the trophy that glistens with the shine of pride and victory. As i stated before my other passion is music and on of my favorite songs to sing is iris by the goo goo dolls. so if you wanna find out more about me you will just have to keep reading and waiting for me to post but ill leave you with a treat till next time this is Mr. Brendan Hussey signing off.

The first post in the next step

Hello my name is Brendan Hussey, I am currently a secondary education major with my focus in English. Since 9th grade my English teacher the wonderful Mrs.Maresca has taken me under her wing and allowed me to blossom both in my new found dream and in my writing, and in many ways has saved my life. It is her I aspire to become a teacher like her who not only dose her job but touches the lives of her students and makes them believe in themselves again when even they have lost hope. i hope that within this blog i can give insight to the life and times of an education major who has a passion for the arts and is driven to make a difference in the world one shiny red apple at a time.
